Tow rig broke. Stranded in GJ. We need to get to Lincoln Nebraska with our two FSAE cars by Tuesday night . You can drive the cars if you get us there.

I’m an FSAE alum. What broke exactly, the truck? The trailer? Etc? I won’t be in Colorado until this weekend unfortunatly but what specifically is wrong matters.

The truck broke. We can’t rent a truck that can tow. School won’t let us use a uhaul to tow the trailer.

Damn, insurance reasons probably. Any shot at getting the truck fixed in time? No one on the team has a truck or a relative with one? We allegedly moved out trailer with a student truck a few times.

Nobody has a rental truck that can haul it. You need at least a half ton. We have team members with a truck but they are in California, where we are from. We are reaching out to relatives with no success. We are from. Cal poly and it died in the middle of nowhere Utah

Okay. I didn’t realize you were so far from home base.

tell the school to suck rope if they aren’t willing to help you. if you have no other option why not just go the uhaul route. or leave the trailer somehwere and transfer everything to the uhaul truck.

I shared your post to the OppositeTalk facebook group, hopefully someone can help you out. Otherwise, you might want to go with what Frank Grimes suggested and tow it with a U-Haul anyway or transfer the essentials to the rental hauler.

Can’t tow with uhaul because school rules.
Uhaul opens at 8am, but waiting that long then repacking it will make us very late

I’m in Jersey so I’m no help on that front. However, what about this bro truck for $50/day?

The uhaul opens at 8am. It’ll take a few hours transfer the stuff. Cost aside (oh.man) time wise it’ll really kill us . Its our last try if we can’t pull it together tonight

1500 not enough towing capacity

You have two race cars, open road, and darkness on your side. I think I see a way out of this....

Needs to be a 2500 or larger. 6-8000 pound trailer

How much weight are we talking?
Actually check that, I’m 22 hours away so that’s out. What exactly’s up with your truck? Google claimed Autozone’s open till 11. We’ve got the power of Oppo and an FSAE team should be able to diagnose and fix it.

Truck owner is not comfortable with us fixing it. There is a specialized to required for the flywheel.
6000-9000 lbs

Scratch that 9600...

If we’re talking flywheel, yeah, that’s a step or two above roadside repairs. I’ll get the word out as best I can.

9600 is a little more than I’d trust my truck with at 330k miles anyhow. I’ve shared this post to a few spots, including the Lemons guys. Hopefully you can get things sorted out.
Also, a UHaul rental truck will pull your trailer. Unless you’ve got stuff in the back of the truck, why waste time transferring?

You can rent bigger but with your timetable who knows if you can actually get something https://www.enterprisetrucks.com/truckrental/en_US/vehicles/pickup-trucks/ThreeQuarterTon4WDPickupTruck-business.html

Also, 9600lbs could be done with a half-ton if you get desperate. Not ideal at all but doable with reasonable precautions. We pulled our FSAE trailer (similar weight) all the way (1200 miles) to Lincoln with our rental 15-passenger van. Ultimately not the best choice but it made it there and back.

Got an offer of something.
I might stick with UHaul though. A few suggestions of Enterprise’s commercial stuff, they’ll rent out one-tons but aren’t any super close.

Check out the picture. It’s a 2500 with a Cummins.

How do I put you guys in touch? Don’t know what all he’s down for but I know him personally. Pretty sure he’s talking about a 2000ish Dodge Cummins.

Okay cool. Stay safe, and do well in Lincoln! Just don’t do better than Saskatchewan, lol.

dang that sucks.
but you did try towing with a chevy... ;)

My Chevy 1500 is rated for 11k pounds. I’m sure a Ram 1500 with the 5.7 could pull an 8k pound trailer.
